# The War-Slough — Infernal Map *A handout provided by Koh Tam — Avernus, First Layer of the Nine Hells* --- ![[war slough infernal map.png.png]] --- > *The map is not parchment. It is pressed ash and bone-black ink, and it is warm to the touch. When you stare at it too long, the marked locations seem to pulse faintly, as if breathing.* --- ## Using This Map Koh Tam has given you an infernal map of the War-Slough. It marks several points of interest across the mire. Study it carefully — the route you choose, and when you choose to move, will determine what you face. **Navigation.** When moving between marked locations, the party's navigator makes a **Wisdom (Survival) check**. Whether you succeed or fail, there is a **50% chance** the movement draws a random encounter. Hell does not sleep. **Order of Travel.** You may visit the marked locations in any order you choose. **Resting.** Every time you take a short or long rest in the War-Slough, roll for a random encounter. On a 1–3, it interrupts the rest. On a 4–6, it happens shortly after. **Demon Blood.** After spending more than an hour in the War-Slough, make a **DC 15 Constitution saving throw** or be warped by the demonic ichor soaking the ground. Short rests require the same save. Long rests require **DC 20**. **Escaping the Slough.** If you have been in the War-Slough for more than 8 hours, leaving requires a **DC 15 Wisdom saving throw**. The Slough does not want to let go. --- ## Marked Locations --- ### W1 — Sentry Tower *The perimeter. Where the Slough begins.* A ring of towers marks the border of the War-Slough. Sentry duty here is a punishment posting for lowly devils, their attention perpetually drawn inward toward the demonic taint at their backs. Getting in is the easy part. --- ### W2 — Ruined Tower *Deep in the Slough. Five hundred feet of smoke-choked ruin.* Through the haze, the outline of a great tower rises into the sky. Winged shapes circle its peak. Companies of devils march at its base, following orders only they can hear. The tower dates from a time when the War-Slough was much smaller. --- ### W3 — Ichor Lake & the Demon Nest *The largest of the demon-ichor lakes. Something lives at its center.* A vast circular rift drops a hundred feet into the depths of the Slough. Demonic ichor has gathered at the bottom into a lake that seethes and bubbles with unconstrained malice. At its center is an island resembling a massive nest. The smoke and haze make it nearly impossible to see what occupies the tunnels below. --- ### W4 — Canyon Trove *A massive canyon cleaving the battlefield. Paved in corpses.* The real treasures of the War-Slough are said to lie here — artifacts of the Blood War, weapons that failed to end anything, and stranger things still. The canyon does not give up its prizes easily. --- ## Koh Tam's Advice > *"There are some devils that seek mortals to enter the War-Slough and find discarded weapons from the Blood War. Search the borders for such a devil — it might help you find what you're looking for. And make haste. The War-Slough can warp those who stay too long."* --- *Infernal Map — The War-Slough | Avernus, Layer One* *Provided by Koh Tam | Chains of Asmodeus, Ch. 3*
